Three days lets Akagera breathe. You sleep inside the park — where entry fees halve from the second night — reach the remote Kilala Plains in the north where game concentrates, and add the two experiences day-trippers miss: a sunset boat safari and a nocturnal game drive.
Itinerary
- Day 1 — Kigali to Akagera south gate; afternoon game drive through the lakes region; sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema. Overnight Ruzizi Tented Lodge or Akagera Game Lodge.
- Day 2 — Full-day game drive north through Mutumba Hills to the Kilala Plains — prime lion, elephant and rhino country; picnic lunch in the bush; optional night drive after dinner ($40).
- Day 3 — Early behind-the-scenes tour or sport fishing at Lake Shakani, exit via south gate and return to Kigali by mid-afternoon.
